Looking to escape to an island paradise and get vaccinated at the same time? Well, I heard the Maldives is beautiful this time of year.
The popular island nation is launching a new program where tourists can get vaccinated at the border and then go on to enjoy their tropical vacation. While medical tourism is nothing new, this new idea is a fresh take to boost tourism for the country, which is heavily reliant on vacationers from around the world.
Today, the Maldives requires a Covid PCR test and hotel reservation to enter the country. And for those who are already vaccinated, you can enjoy unrestricted travel throughout the archipelago and its many resorts offering overwater bungalows and a host of watersports and activities.
While vaccination requirements will become a common entry requirement for many countries, it’s interesting to see the vaccine being used as a marketing tactic to boost tourism. It’s not clear yet whether tourists will have to pay for the vaccination or when the program will start, but it appears to be a positive first step to ensuring a safe and enjoyable vacation for tourists to this beautiful destination.
Rumor Hotels plans to offer airline staff exclusive rates for hotels in the Maldives soon. Check back often!
